Tav Sparks is an international consultant, lecturer, and writer living in Northern California. Since 1985 he has led numerous workshops in Holotropic Breathwork™ and transpersonal approaches to wellness and recovery. He teaches in the Grof Transpersonal Training program for Holotropic Breathwork certification.
Tav was program coordinator for the 1990 and 1991 International Transpersonal Association (ITA) conferences on transpersonal recovery and the 1995 conference, Spirit in Action: Awakening the Sacred in Everyday Life. He is also a member of the ITA board of directors.
Formerly an addictions therapist, Tav has been a pioneer in the field of transpersonal recovery. He is the author of The Wide Open Door: The Twelve Steps, Spiritual Tradition and the New Psychology. The Wide Open Door is about the connection between Eleventh Step work and ongoing addictions recovery. It is a synthesis of psychology, spirituality, and the Twelve Step Traditions.
After several years in early recovery, Tav found himself in a period of personal unrest and professional dilemma. At this time he used a powerful Eleventh Step method (Holotropic Breathwork™) and had profound spiritual experiences. Tav's experiences with this technique increased his conscious contact with his Higher Power and deepened his ability to surrender. The experience generally enriched his practice of all the Twelve Steps.
