What Kylea has to say about her book...

"Breathwork" was not in the library. As the daughter of a librarian, I was well-trained to "look it up" whenever I became interested in something. But when I first encountered breathwork in 1984, I could find no books about it. Ten years later, I could still not find an introductory book about breathwork providing information on the process and theory and answering some of the common questions asked by people, who have never done breathwork or who are just beginning to participate.

This is the book I wanted to read in 1984, the book I wished to give to my family and friends in 1985, and the book I wanted to suggest to my clients ever since I became a Holotropic Breathwork™ practitioner.

This book is designed to respond to different levels of interest and involvement. It is appropriate for those who have never done breathwork; for those who are in the midst of ongoing breathwork sessions; and for people who want to know about breathwork because their friends, family, and co-workers are participating. It may be useful to those engaged in work with other breathwork systems, to those using shamanic techniques, and to those whose nonordinary states occur spontaneously. It is also a basic description of the breathwork process for therapists whose clients have become interested in breathwork. It will begin to answer the questions of when, how, why, and with whom breathwork can play a part in transforming lives.

I have tried to select examples of breathwork experiences which are proportionally representative of a normal group of workshop experiences. While these illustrations may seem fantastic to someone who has not herself experienced non-ordinary states in this context, I must assure you that I have chosen these particular examples because they give fair representation of common breathwork experiences.
