Envisioning: SoulCollage and Poetry Exhibits

Collages & Poetry
Collages & Poetry

Early in 2003 nineteen women SoulCollage artists decided to honor International Women’s month in March by creating large collages around the theme of Envisioning Peace and Protecting the Children’s Fire. As these works progressed we found that the images often spoke aloud, and poems came forth to accompany the collages. At present many of us are beginning to create another exhibit, this one on Envisioning Gaia or Mother Earth and her Safe Future. All of these Envisioning collages are going to be round!

If anyone is interested in gathering others and beginning to create these Envisioning: SoulCollage and Poetry exhibits, we encourage you to do so. It is fun and meaningful at the same time. Let us know if you do, and perhaps we can include announcements for your exhibits on this website.

A total of forty collages were created. The exhibit was hung during March in an art gallery in San Juan Bautista, California. The poems were mounted next to the collages, and we even created an audiotape of the poems to be played during the reception on March 8, International Women’s Day.

After March this powerful exhibit went on the road. During April and May the collages were hanging in the Unity Center for the Creative Spirit in Berkeley, CA. Starting August 4, 2003, twenty of these Envisioning Peace collages, along with their poems, will hang at Thunderbird Bookstore in the Barnyard, Carmel, CA. We hope for other places to exhibit them in the future. They are mounted on poster board, but do not have glass over them so they are light and fairly easy to transport.

Several of us have reduced these collages so they can become cards in our decks of SoulCollage cards. Two examples from my SoulCollage deck are shown here: Female Creator, a Council card and also The Children’s Fire, also a SoulCollage Council card.

The Children's Fire

The Children's Fire
The Children's Fire

I am the Children's Fire, the future of this planet. Nothing must be allowed to harm me. That is the first rule of all life. There is a precarious balance between life and extinction right now, so you must do what your soul commands to make sure this lovely child of ours need not fail or fall.

Female Creator

With great love and joy I throw out my net filled with the gifts of this earthly creation. I invite you to be co-creator with me, but not you alone. You must join with others and together throw forth your many magical nets to manifest precious images of the imagination.
